AHRO CENTER FOR ACADEMIC RESEARCH

Our Research

Africa Health Research Organization (AHRO) and the AHRO Center for Academic Research were established to undertake high-impact research activities that are of global health importance. AHRO has been set up based on a “research hub” model, with each hub responsible for its centralized administrative functions. Research activities are spread across West Africa. In addition, AHRO offers academic programs that are either delivered by the Center or in collaboration with international educational institutions (visit the AHRO Institute for more information about our courses).

Our research activities are divided into 3:

  • Discovery

  • Translational Research

  • Clinical Research

Multiomics Center

The AHRO Multi-Omics Research division is an initiative that utilizes the application of multi-omics technology to study diseases and factors that have impacts in the development of human diseases in diverse population across West Africa. By leveraging the potential of multi-omics technology, the research division which is under the leadership of Professor Abubakar Yaro will be involved in innovative and novel research that will have long-term impact on international global health. The center in UK AHRO Center for Academic Research coordinates the Multiomics program.

Aims

  1. Utilize multi-omics to identify markers of vaccine and drug efficacy.
  2. Leverage multi-omics for evaluation across clinical conditions and human diseases.
  3. Identify mechanisms of action of target proteins for drug development, and use the technology to evaluate the mechanisms of action of natural products under the natural-omics initiative.
  4. Use multi-omics to understand the process of aging.
  5. Understand the concept of precision medicine through the use of multi-omics.
  6. Advance studies on “venom-omics,” where different venoms will be evaluated for human medicine.
  7. Undertake studies to monitor drug resistance using multi-omics.
  8. Develop the skills of researchers in developing countries through workshops, seminars, hands-on training, etc.
