EPIDEMOLOGY FOR JOURNALISTS TRAINING
INTRODUCTION
COVID-19 has taught us one lesson: we must not exclude journalist in health reporting. Epidemiology is associated with understanding and improving population health. It is therefore vital that journalists are trained in this essential aspect of disease management.
This 14 weeks intensive program will equip journalists with key fundamental knowledge to tackle challenges in healthcare setting especially during pandemics and/ or epidemics.
The course aim to develop of journalist on a range of technical skills that cover epidemiological methods of gathering information and analysing in healthcare sector.
OUTCOMES
At the end of this training, participants should:
Understand the basic principles and practice of epidemiology
How to evaluate epidemiologic evidences
Able to convey complex epidemiological information to a wide range of audience
Build skills in working in a team

Module 1: Introduction to Epidemiology
Module 2: Causality and Causal Inference
Module 3: Epidemiologic Study Design
Modules 4: Measuring disease occurrence and association
Module 5: Bias in Epidemiological Studies
Module 6: Confounding in epidemiological studies
Module 7: Randomized controlled trials: why are they important in clinical settings?
Module 8: Case-Control studies
Module 9: Cross-sectional studies
Module 10: Ecological studies
Module 11: Diagnostic studies
Module 12: Systematic review and meta-analysis
Module 13: Mathematical modelling
Module 14: Research project
COURSE ASSESSMENT
Participants would be assessed during or at the end of each module via a number of methods. To complete and pass a module, participant must get 50% pass mark.

AWARD
