This FAQ intends to be a guide for prospective students. It covers general questions about postgraduate programmes at AU.
The academic work of Africa Health Research Organization is undertaken by AHRO University, located in Glasgow, Scotland. The programmes covered 10 specialities and each programme has its own areas of focus that guide its training and teaching and research activities.
AHRO University was established by the Africa Health Research Organization as “an international platform of scholars, engaged in research, postgraduate training, and dissemination of knowledge for the promotion of global health and sciences based on the charter of the Africa Health Research Organization”. AU offers a growing catalogue of postgraduate-level degree, certificate, and advanced-training programmes.

AU offers a diverse range of educational programme for applicants interested in pursing postgraduate education or building their professional skills. AU academic programmes consist of:

Application procedures, scholarship details and other information differ by programmes. Prospective students are therefore encouraged to carefully read the admission section to search for a programme of their interest.
Applicants are encouraged to thoroughly research funding options on an individual basis, and to apply for funding from their home country governments, private foundations or international funding agencies. As AU accepts students from around the world, and each country has its own system for awarding scholarships, AU cannot provide a list of available scholarships for each applicant. A limited number of AU scholarships are awarded to outstanding candidates, particularly those from developing countries. Scholarship applications are usually submitted at the time of applying to a programme, and the list of available scholarships differs for each programme. Please note that AU offers such scholarships only for students enrolled in AU programmes. AU does not offer scholarships or grants to students studying at other institutions.
Yes. 80% of our courses are delivered online. However, there is a compulsory 2 weeks residential activity for Master’s to be hosted in Glasgow. Doctorate degree students are expected to visit the institute at Glasgow once a year.
AU offers a number of doctoral- and postdoctoral-level fellowships. Generally, an applicant for a doctoral fellowships must be enrolled in a PhD programme at another university, and must be at the dissertation writing stage of his/her degree programme with an accepted research proposal; an applicants for a postdoctoral fellowship must have obtained a PhD (or at least successfully defended the PhD thesis) in a relevant area. An AU postgraduate degree provides graduates with the knowledge and skills to make important contributions towards solving global health issues, whether through employment by Africa Health Research Organization, other international organizations, governments, civil society or the private sector. You do not need a AU degree to be employed by the Africa Health Research Organization, and obtaining a AU degree does not guarantee a job within the Africa Health Research Organization.
