The AHRO Network has initiated the ambitious “AHRO Climate Change and One Health Project”, aimed at addressing the interconnected impacts of climate change on human, animal, and environmental health. The project was officially launched on 25th November 2024 during the 1st Africa Consultative Summit on Climate Change and One Health, held in London, UK.
In his keynote address, Prof. Yaro, Director-General of AHRO, emphasized the critical objectives of the project, stating that its primary aim is to deepen the understanding of the multifaceted impacts of climate change within the One Health framework. He further highlighted that the initiative seeks to foster collaborative efforts in addressing these challenges.
Key activities under the project include:
- Conducting cutting-edge research on the health impacts of climate change.
- Providing specialized training for health professionals and individuals interested in climate change and its implications.
- Promoting awareness and building capacity to mitigate and adapt to the effects of climate change.
“Although AHRO acknowledges that the impact of climate change is felt worldwide, the focus of this project will be in Africa,” Prof. Yaro added, emphasizing the need for localized solutions to tackle the unique challenges faced by the continent.
This project reaffirms AHRO’s commitment to addressing global health challenges while fostering resilience and sustainability in Africa and beyond.
