About AHRO: Ocean of Knowledge

Our Journey Begins

Africa Health Research Organization (AHRO) was founded in 1997. Initially named Africa Health Promotion Organization, its early focus was on health awareness and advocacy, inspired by the XIIIth International AIDS Conference and Nelson Mandela's call for unity against AIDS.

Evolving Focus: Research & Education

The organization was later renamed AHRO, shifting its focus to research and education. AHRO was officially registered in Ghana and the United Kingdom, marking its international presence.

Relocation to Africa

In 2008, directors based in the UK decided to move the main administrative office to Africa. Ghana was chosen, and AHRO (Ghana) began operations in 2010.

Milestones & Publications

  • 2010: Hosted the 1st International Malaria Drugs Conference at the British Council, attracting global delegates.
  • Initiated "Annals of Tropical Medicine and Public Health," a monthly peer-reviewed journal for disseminating scientific knowledge.
  • 2010-2019: Focused on promoting the journal and organizing events, including the 1st International Tuberculosis Drug Therapy in Accra, Ghana.

Rebirth in England: A New Chapter

Learning from past experiences, AHRO relocated to England, establishing AHRO Center for Academic Research Limited. This new phase adopted a rigid operational model, emphasizing strong administrative structures.

Resilience Through Challenges

The departure of a founding director in 2019 coincided with the global onset of COVID-19. During this period, AHRO-Scotland was established as AHRO Scientific Publishing Company, primarily focusing on journals and books, including vital COVID-19 health promotion publications. Despite internal challenges leading to the dissolution of AHRO-Scotland, the organization persevered.

Our Vision: University by 2030

With the motto "Ocean of Knowledge," AHRO is deeply committed to research and academics. The organization became fully functional in August 2025, and its ambitious mission is to evolve into a fully fledged university by 2030.
